About VITAVE

The gap between what we needed and what existed is where VITAVE started. We were electrical engineers looking for high-voltage pulse generators that could do what our applications required. They didn’t exist. So we built them.

What happened next we hadn’t planned. Once the equipment existed, people in completely different fields started describing problems the same technology could address — applications we hadn’t anticipated. A researcher in medicine. Someone in food processing. A plasma physicist. Each one arrived with a different problem, and each one revealed that the platform could go further than we’d imagined.

That’s still how it works. We don’t have a fixed list of markets we decided to serve. We have a platform that keeps meeting new problems, and a team that’s learned to expect the unexpected.

Every VITAVE system is configured for the specific application. We know our equipment down to the component level — every transistor, every stage — which means we can adapt it. The platform is highly modular by design, not because we planned for every use case, but because new use cases kept arriving and forcing the architecture to stay flexible.

If your application doesn’t map neatly to something we’ve done before, that’s not unusual. Some of the most interesting work we do starts with a problem description we’ve never heard.

Our clients are experts in their own domains. A food scientist running PEF trials doesn’t need to become a high-voltage engineer — they need a system that works and a team that explains it in terms that are actually useful. We take that seriously.

That relationship continues after delivery. Correct setup, measurement technique, troubleshooting — we’re available for all of it. The goal is that the equipment stops being a variable in the research and starts being a reliable tool.

The most interesting problems in this space sit at the intersection of disciplines. Medicine, biology, food science, plasma physics — each field has researchers pushing at boundaries that require deep domain knowledge and high-level equipment capability at the same time. Nobody holds both.

We contribute the EE half. That’s not just a support role — it’s an active research partnership. The work moves faster when both sides of that equation are operating at full depth.

We participate in conferences and educational events partly for this reason: new application areas don’t announce themselves. They emerge from conversations between people working in different fields who realise they’re solving adjacent problems. That’s how we’ve found some of our most interesting work, and we expect it to keep happening.

Much of our work begins with one researcher recommending us to another. That trust means a great deal to us. Some of that work finds its way into the published literature, where VITAVE generators appear in the experimental methods.
